If you have carpets in every area of your large home and need to have all of them steam-cleaned, here are some tips to follow.

Open all of the house's windows and use multiple dehumidifiers

In order to ensure that they finish steam-cleaning all of your sizeable home's carpets in one visit, the carpet steam-cleaning business that you hire might need to send several employees with several steam-cleaning machines, so that their staff can tackle multiple carpets at once. Because of this, there may be a considerable amount of steam produced throughout their visit (much more than there would be if there were only one carpet steam cleaner in use). To ensure that this steam doesn't result in the humidity levels in your home rising to an uncomfortable level, you should ensure that all of the windows in your house are open before the cleaners start cleaning the carpets.

Additionally, if you have (or can borrow or hire) multiple dehumidifiers, placing these around your home could not only prevent the humidity levels from climbing too high but could also be useful if it rains or snows whilst the cleaners are working, and you cannot, therefore, keep all of the windows open. If you are able to do this, you should ensure that each dehumidifier is positioned in a place where it won't get in the cleaners' way or make it difficult for them to access any carpeted area.

Give yourself a few days to fully vacuum the house beforehand

To maximise the effectiveness of the steam-cleaning work that the cleaners do, your carpets should be vacuumed beforehand. Removing things like pet hair and surface-level dirt particles will make it easier for the steam-cleaning equipment to reach and sanitise the base of the carpet fibres, as well as their upper sections.

However, if your home is very large and fully carpeted, vacuuming it could take a while. As such, you should give yourself a few days to do this and, if possible, try to wear clean slippers over the vacuumed areas in the run-up to the steam-cleaning appointment so that you don't reintroduce dirt into these areas. If you don't have the energy or the free time to do this, it might be worth asking the cleaning company if they can carry out this vacuuming for you before they steam-cleaning the house's carpets. Whilst this might add to your costs, it could greatly enhance the results of the steam-cleaning work.
