Two Matters to Discuss With the Deceased Estate Cleaning Team You've Hired

Here are two matters you'll need to talk through with the deceased estate cleaning team you've hired.

Whether there any belongings of the deceased you want them to clean in a certain way

Having professionals clean a deceased loved one's property is not as straightforward as having them clean any other property, as it can be quite an emotional experience for the person using this service. You may, for example, want the cleaners to clean certain items that belonged to the deceased in a specific way. For instance, if the deceased always used a particular brand of almond-scented furniture polish and would never use any other one on their furniture, then you might want to ask the cleaners to use this brand and scent as a show of respect to your deceased loved one.

Additionally, if the deceased had heirlooms that are going to be bequeathed to their surviving relatives and that are fragile and sentimentally valuable, you might want to advise the cleaning crew to use a particularly gentle touch when cleaning them. If, for example, the deceased owned a grandfather clock whose glass face already has some surface scratches, you might want to tell them to use extra-soft microfibre cloths and a very light touch when cleaning this. If they're warned about this, the cleaners will be able to get these objects clean without damaging them.

Which items do not require cleaning

There may be items in the deceased's home that don't require cleaning. For example, if you have found objects that are too worn out to sell, to pass on to other relatives or to donate, then you might decide to recycle them instead. In instances like this, there's no need to get the cleaners to wash, polish or dust these objects, unless they're incredibly unclean.

Likewise, if there are some furniture items that you're going to keep but that you plan to do restoration work on (for example, if the deceased left you an antique china cabinet that you want to refinish), then you should tell the cleaners not to bother with these items. Showing them which items don't need to be cleaned will ensure they don't waste time sanitising or dusting them. Being able to skip cleaning some of the furniture or other objects around the property will also mean that they'll have more time to devote to making the rooms and objects that do require cleaning completely immaculate.
